Character name: Asellus
Canon (AU?): Saga Frontier
If AU, name your AU: N/A
Character background:
Once upon a time, Asellus was an everyday human teenager living with her aunt in the boring old suburbs. This all changed when the Charm Lord (a high class Mystic) accidentally ran her over with his carriage and decided to mix his blood with hers instead of leaving her there as roadkill. She woke up 12 years later as the world's one and only half-Mystic. CUE EXISTENTIAL CRISIS.
Feared by humans and looked down on by Mystics, Asellus goes on a quest to find out who she is and how she fits in the world. This journey of self-realization is complicated by the Charm Lord as he keeps sending minions after her to try and drag her (and the princess she took with her) back to his castle. Asellus is forced to take a crash course in learning how to fight, harnessing her Mystic powers, and traveling the world to evade one guy who just doesn't take no for an answer. Oh, and also she has to reconcile budding romantic feelings for her princess friend, White Rose.
Things get really ugly when the Charm Lord traps Asellus and party in a never-ending labyrinth where a sacrifice must be made in order to escape. Princess White Rose chooses to remain behind for everyone else, which angers Asellus enough to bring the fight back to the castle and the Charm Lord's front door. She has had enough! The Charm Lord is quite disappointed by Asellus's lack of desire to follow in his footsteps, so the two finally settle things in a fight to the death with Asellus as the victor.
Twelve Questions:
What makes you curious?
Asellus loves to travel and explore new places. She's probably traveled to every single region in her own world and spends most of her time revisiting old haunts. To a lesser extent she likes to meet new people (only because how they react to her being a half-Mystic). However, if someone is open-minded and needs help, she's usually willing to offer a hand. This goes double if the quest is to help someone in trouble.
What makes you happy?
Spending times with her friends and travelling companions. After the Charm Lord's defeat, Asellus seem to be always on the move with one of her friends from her previous adventures at her side. She likes the simple things in life, and it really doesn't take a whole lot to make her happy. Just good company, freedom, and nice open spaces.
What inspires your industry?
Necessity and the people she cares about. She is a very reactionary character that lacks ambition. She has no need for wealth, power, or even a distinct goal. Protecting herself, her friends, and her way of life are her primary motivators to action.
What sparks your anger?
Holier-than-thou types that believe they deserve respect just because they exist. Look, Asellus doesn't care if she's speaking to the ruler of all Mystics. Manners are manners, and she isn't afraid to talk back or hit back if push comes to shove. If someone is being a rude asshat, she'll be the first to point it out.
What peaks your affections?
Patience, understanding, and selflessness. That's not to say that she doesn't like playful banter between friends and a little rough housing. Asellus has friends of all types who she is affectionate to in her own way. But romantic affections are won through being sweet and kind.
What inspires your devotion?
Helping people who need help and those who have helped her. However, she strongly shies away from being devoted to things like causes and power structures. She intensely dislikes the idea that one person should be subservient to another or that one person should have power another. Asellus is very much pro-equality in relationships.
What do you fear?
Being alone in the world and watching her human friends die of old age. Even as a half-Mystic, she has a really long lifespan, so it's unsettling to see loved ones age while she remains sweet seventeen forever. It also is a reminder of the life that she will never have - getting married, having kids, watching them grow and have grandchildren, etc.
What comforts you?
Familiar places and familiar faces. Some time to herself is also nice if she knows her friends are reachable. Having the freedom to be and do what she wants.
What stirs your nostalgia?
Anything that reminds her of her life as a human. Modern suburban life in general - the kind with rows and rows of similar houses with large park areas in between. White houses with white picket fences and large trees outside reminds her of the childhood house she used to live in with her aunt.
What is it that disgusts you?
Bigotry and the abuse of power. Taking advantage of someone weaker.
What do you hate?
In addition to the above answer, people who use others for their own selfish gains, whims, or fancy. She refused to be a pawn for the Charm Lord, and she helps a water Mystic escape from a noble even though said noble loves her. Nothing will move Asellus faster to action than seeing someone used, good intentions or no.
What do you love?
Princess White Rose first and foremost. She supported Asellus the most during their travels and while she was struggling with coming to terms with who she is. After that would be Gina and the rest of her friends.
Optional Information
By virtue of being a half-Mystic and having the Charm Lord's blood, Asellus emits a charm aura. It's usually pretty negligible unless she has reasons to ramp it up.
Also, her game has multiple endings, but I am taking her from the half-Mystic endings where she has reconciled being both part human and part Mystic.
